In 2021, Bavaria and Tunisia renewed their partnership agreement, paving the way for a continued privileged relationship. By organizing this Cooperation Lounge, BayFOR contributes to intensifying the scientific dialogue between Bavaria and Tunisia.

The first day of the event will offer participants an overview of the opportunities provided by various EU funding programmes. The focus will be directed at "Horizon Europe", the new EU framework programme for research and innovation. The conditions and basic principles of research and innovation projects in cooperation with African partners will also be presented.

On the second day, three thematic working groups will provide a platform for an intensive exchange on existing and future scientific cooperation projects. In addition, possibilities of financing research projects as well as ways to institutionalize cooperative relationships will be presented. The aim is for the participants to be able to expand their own international network and, ideally, to find new partners for a future research project.

The participants will have the opportunity to present their institution, their expertise, their research and innovation projects or their project idea in a short presentation. The deadline for the submission of the presentation is 22 September 2021. Please note that a selection of presentations may be necessary if the submitted presentations exceed the available time frame.

The topics of the working groups cover the following areas:

  1. Oriental studies - Archaeology - Museum Management - Tourism
  2. Governance - Participative Democracy - EU-Maghreb Partnership
  3. Innovation Management – Research & Scientific Education - Cooperation Management

On the last day of the Cooperation Lounge, the results of the working groups will be presented and the next steps for a successful future cooperation will be outlined.

About the Scientific Coordination Office (WKS) Bavaria-Africa
As part of its Africa strategy, the Bavarian state government created the Bavaria-Africa Scientific Coordination Office (WKS), which is anchored in the Bavarian Research Alliance (BayFOR), in July 2020. The main objective of the WKS Bavaria-Africa is to initiate joint research and innovation projects with African and Bavarian participants. The WKS Bavaria-Africa advises on suitable (EU) funding instruments and facilitates scientific staff exchanges by granting mobility allowances to Bavarian stakeholders in the field of research and innovation. It thereby also supports the EU's course: in addition to the agricultural sector, cooperation between the European Union and Africa is also particularly important in the area of education, research and innovation. Therefore, there is the possibility of EU funding for researchers, companies and institutions from African countries as so-called third countries.
