Programmes of the European Science COST Actions
COST offers researchers the opportunity to participate in European collaborative research. COST’s task is to bring together European research organisations, universities and businesses to create joint research projects. COST (like the EUREKA Initiative) is a framework for European cooperation in science and technology through which national research activities are coordinated.
COST is essentially open to any subject and works with a “bottom-up” approach, facilitating a free choice of topics.
Nevertheless, the following focal topics have emerged:
- Biomedicine and molecular biosciences
- Nutrition/food technology, agriculture
- Forestry and forest products, socio-economic aspects
- Materials/new materials, physics, nanosciences
- Chemistry, molecular sciences and technology
- Earth system, environmental management
- Information and telecommunications science
- Traffic/transport and urban development
- Social sciences and the humanities, culture, health
