SP6 Finite element analysis tools as virtual sensors in the powertrain

Relevant parameters for the design of system components in the powertrain can often only be determined by test bench trials. The use of sensors is essentially limited by the accessibility of the test sites of interest and the costs for an application. Within the scope of this subproject, virtual sensors based on Finite Element Analysis (FEA) are developed and provided as virtual sensors. The sensor data determined in the test field can thus be supplemented with additional detailed information. The virtual sensors enable the local determination of occurring deformation, stress and temperature results, from which relevant parameters for the test field and design processes can be derived. For the project demonstrator, possible fields of application are evaluated and tailor-made solutions are developed in the form of a software demonstrator.

In the foreground of the development is the derivation of efficient calculation models, which reflect the physical behaviour of the considered system components in the best possible way, while minimizing the occurring calculation times. In addition, possible applications of High Performance Computing (HPC) are being examined in order to enable even complex and elaborate calculations to be carried out at reasonable calculation times.

The transferability of the tools and methods developed in this project to application-oriented problems is ensured by the superordinate working groups "Data-driven methods" and "Tools".
