Bavaria-Québec student network meeting with Nadine Girault, Québec Minister for International Relations and Francophonie

On 24 January, 2019, the annual ‘’Bayern-Québec Student Network Meeting’’ took place at the invitation of WKS. In attendance were master and doctoral students who completed a research stay in Québec supported by the WKS mobility support programmes during 2017 and 2018.

Lecture by Prof. Dr. Randy Goebel (University of Alberta, Amii) on "Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and their Applications in Connected Mobility"

On 14 December, 2018, Prof. Dr. Randy Goebel, professor of computer science at the University of Alberta and long-time partner in the scientific cooperation between Bavaria and Alberta, gave a lecture on "Artificial intelligence, machine learning and their applications in connected mobility" at the invitation of WKS.

On November 23, 2018, TUM-Tech organized the 7th Alberta-Germany Symposium on behalf of the Government of Alberta to promote innovative cooperation projects in SMEs and universities.

From 11 to 12 October, 2018, the University of Passau hosted an intercultural and interdisciplinary colloquium, "Creativity and Innovation in Urban Ecosystems - Munich and Montreal in Comparison".

Aerospace, Gaming and AR/VR/AI delegation to Québec 2018

To strengthen the well-developed relations between Bavaria and Québec, a delegation of Bavarian experts from research and industry visited Montréal and Québec City from May 14-18, 2018. Led by the Bavarian State Ministry of Economic Affairs, Energy and Technology the visit focussed areas in aerospace, technologies in gaming, virtual and augmented reality and artificial intelligence. These sectors are of high relevance in research to both regions.

Bavaria's Minister of State Eisenreich and Québec's Prime Minister Couillard announce cooperation in digitisation

During his participation in the 9th Ministerial Conference of the Partner Regions in Québec, the Bavarian Minister of State for Digital Affairs, Media and Europe, Georg Eisenreich, signed an agreement with the Premier of Québec, Philippe Couillard, on cooperation between Bavaria and Quebec in the field of digital affairs.
On the basis of the long-standing cooperation between the two regions, the exchange on the use of artificial intelligence, the digital media industry and ethical issues relating to digitisation is to be intensified. Québec is one of the world's leading centres for research and teaching on digital technologies.

Government of Alberta promotes clean-tech innovation projects

The Government of Alberta is providing CAD 225 million over seven years for interdisciplinary research, commercialization of technologies, and investment in emission-reducing technologies to reduce the province's carbon footprint over the next seven years. These funds will be managed through the Climate Leadership Plan.

Memorandum of Understanding on Research and Technology Cooperation signed between the Government of Bavaria and the Government of Alberta

During his trip to Europe, Deron Bilous, Albertan Minister of Economics and Trade, held a series of talks in Bavaria on economic and scientific cooperation between Bavaria and Alberta. A highlight of his stay was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in research and technology with Ilse Aigner, Bavarian State Minister for Economic Affairs and Media, Energy and Technology and Dr. Ludwig Spaenle, Bavarian State Minister for Education and Culture, Science and the Arts. The signature ceremony took place on 23 October, 2017.
