On 11 June 2026, the Central Institute for Latin American Studies (ZILAS) at the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt (KU) will celebrate its 40th anniversary with a special programme dedicated to international academic cooperation, societal transformation and the future of Latin American Studies. BayFOR’s participation highlights its long-standing collaboration with stakeholders in Latin American research as well as its continued commitment to international networking and European research funding.

As part of the anniversary celebrations, the seventh Maximilian Bickhoff Colloquium entitled “Latin American Studies in Times of Transformation” will take place. BayFOR will actively contribute to the panel discussion, bringing in its long-standing experience in building international research and innovation partnerships between Bavaria, Europe and Latin America.

Dr Thomas Ammerl will represent BayFOR on the panel alongside representatives from academic organisations and international institutions, including the German Rectors’ Conference (HRK), the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), the German Historical Institute Washington and BAYLAT. The discussion will focus on current challenges and future perspectives for international academic cooperation in a changing global environment.

In addition to keynote speeches and welcome addresses, the anniversary programme will also feature the opening of the exhibition “Research in Dialogue: 40 Years of Latin American Studies in Eichstätt”, along with further academic and cultural events.
