Bavarian Battery Congress 2026: Minister for Economic Affairs Aiwanger presents new Bavarian Battery Strategy
Focus: Transformation of the battery industry – strategy, technology, transfer
Demand is growing, and so is competition. Batteries are a key technology, from mobility to critical infrastructure. At the same time, the global balance of power is shifting.
At the heart of this is the new Bavarian Battery Strategy, which was developed with the involvement of key players from industry and research, including MAN, BMW, Audi, GROB, VARTA, Moll Batterien, etc.
The key question: How does Bavaria’s approach fit into the federal government’s high-tech agenda? And where are there concrete opportunities for cooperation, participation and funding? The congress provides precise and practical answers.
The Bavarian Battery Alliance demonstrates, among other things, how knowledge and technology transfer can be successfully achieved and where concrete opportunities for cooperation arise. The programme is complemented by the Battery Start-up Incubator (BaStI) at the Technical University of Munich. This initiative brings new technologies, business models and start-ups to market.
The accompanying trade exhibition addresses key issues for the future, with the aim of bringing stakeholders together and, at the same time, informing them about current opportunities for support, funding and collaboration.
Focus on technology: performance is key
Three parallel expert panels will explore these topics in depth. The focus is on performance-driven innovations:
- High-performance batteries for defence, rail transport and sports cars
- Requirements regarding energy density, cycle stability and system performance
- The future of the market for stationary storage, particularly for critical infrastructure
How strategy becomes funding: Your access to EU funding with BayFOR
BayFOR offers free advice to help you secure EU funding for research and innovation projects. The focus is on the European Framework Programme for Research and Innovation, ‘Horizon Europe’ – the world’s largest funding programme of its kind. It will show you which elements of the Bavarian Battery Strategy are compatible with European programmes – and how these can be developed into specific funding projects.
Companies, research institutions and start-ups receive clear answers: Which topics are eligible for funding? Where is it worth submitting an application? And how can you successfully join European consortia?
Do you already have a specific call for proposals in mind, or are you still looking for (international) project partners? Please feel free to contact us directly or fill in our international partner search form “Battery calls 2026/2027” in advance.
