BayFOR at the Thessaloniki International Fair 2026: German-Greek cooperation on hydrogen technologies

From 5 to 13 September 2026, the 90th Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF) will take place in Greece. The Bavarian Research Alliance (BayFOR) will be there on 10 September to present the German-Greek research and innovation project H2G2 (“Hydrogen Support Hub for Technology Transfer”). The focus will be on research and innovation cooperation between Germany and Greece and on new technologies across the hydrogen value chain.

The Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF) is Greece’s leading industry and trade fair and an important platform for business, research, innovation and international cooperation.

BayFOR presents H2G2 at TIF 2026

On 10 September 2026, from 17:00 to 18:00, the Bavarian Research Alliance (BayFOR) will join German and Greek research partners to present three research and innovation projects in the field of hydrogen technologies.

All three projects are funded under the 3rd German-Greek research and innovation programme “Intensifying Cooperation with Greece in the Field of Green Hydrogen” by the German Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR) together with the Greek General Secretariat for Research and Innovation (GSRI).

The event will take place in Hall 7 at the stand of the General Secretariat for Research and Innovation (GSRI) of the Greek Ministry of Development.

1. H2G2 – Hydrogen Support Hub for Technology Transfer

Dr Panteleïmon Panagiotou, Head of Unit, Bavarian Research Alliance (BayFOR)

H2G2 connects German-Greek hydrogen projects and supports knowledge transfer, technology transfer, matchmaking and European networking among the participating stakeholders. BayFOR is responsible for the overall coordination of the project.

H2G2 supports the German-Greek research and innovation projects across the entire hydrogen value chain – from production and safety to storage and use. Through European networking, the project also aims to foster new collaborations and create opportunities for future European research and innovation funding.

2. MOFTHy

Dr Panagiotis Grammelis, Research Director, Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH)

MOFTHy develops new materials and manufacturing processes for high-pressure hydrogen storage systems. The aim is to make these systems more durable, safer and more efficient, thereby contributing to the development of a high-performance hydrogen infrastructure.

3. pHyBios

Dr Michalis Bampaou, Collaborating Researcher, Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH)

pHyBios develops new processes for producing hydrogen from biogas. The aim is to enable existing biogas plants to also be used for the sustainable production of hydrogen in the future.
