Workshop: Artificial Intelligence and Sustainability – International Research Collaboration with Central, Eastern and South-Eastern Europe
The two-day workshop is aimed in particular at researchers from Bavarian universities who wish to establish or deepen international collaborations at the interface between artificial intelligence and sustainability.
Artificial Intelligence for Sustainable Development
A key focus of the workshop is the “International Research Centre on Artificial Intelligence under the auspices of UNESCO” (IRCAI), based in Ljubljana, Slovenia. The international research centre investigates how artificial intelligence can contribute to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The IRCAI’s activities include, amongst other things, basic and applied research, the development of AI skills, the establishment of international research networks, knowledge transfer and policy advice, as well as the promotion of international collaboration. As part of the workshop, the IRCAI will present its research areas and opportunities for future collaborations.
The Georg Simon Ohm University of Applied Sciences in Nuremberg (Ohm) will also provide insights into its research on artificial intelligence and sustainability. There, AI plays an important role in areas such as industrial applications, healthcare and social services, business management issues, and human–machine interaction.
Finding research partners and developing joint project ideas
Researchers from Bavaria as well as from Central, Eastern and South-Eastern Europe will have the opportunity to present their key research areas and ideas for international collaboration and to exchange views with potential partners.
Particular emphasis is placed on three UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):
- SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being
- SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy
- SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth
In addition, other research and innovation topics that link artificial intelligence with sustainable development are welcome.
BayFOR provides information on EU research and innovation funding
The Bavarian Research Alliance (BayFOR) is supporting the workshop with its expertise in European research and innovation funding. Dr Panteleimon Panagiotou, Head of the Information and Communication Technologies | Natural and Engineering Sciences Division at BayFOR, will present suitable European funding programmes as well as BayFOR’s advisory services on EU research and innovation funding.
On the second day of the event, the focus will be on selected funding calls and potential joint funding applications. Based on the participants’ ideas for collaboration, suitable calls will be discussed and the first steps towards developing joint funding applications will be explored.
Participation in the workshop is free of charge. The event will be held in English. Free accommodation can also be provided for a limited number of participants.
Further information, the provisional programme and the online registration form can be found on the BAYHOST website.
