Your opinion is needed! EU initiative for a common European higher education qualification

The European Commission wants your opinion on a common European higher education qualification, appropriate quality assurance and recognition systems and attractive and sustainable careers in higher education. To this end, it has published consultations aimed at all interested parties - from the higher education sector to partners in its ecosystem, trade unions and employers' organisations, businesses and SMEs, research and innovation institutions, civil society, citizens and Member States (local, regional and national authorities).

EIT Higher Education Programme will be extended until 2027

The 'EIT Higher Education Institutions (HEI) Initiative' will be extended until 2027. The initiative supports change processes in universities in order to increase their entrepreneurship and innovation potential. During the test phase, 359 universities and 179 institutions from the non-academic sector received 69 million euros in funding. In 65 projects, more than 40,000 students, academic and administrative staff received training on innovation and entrepreneurship. In addition, more than 1000 start-ups and scale-ups were supported.

Belgium takes over EU Council Presidency

From 1 January to 30 June, Belgium will hold the Presidency of the Council of the European Union. During its Presidency, Belgium will be responsible for coordinating the activities of the Council and promoting cooperation between the Member States. All this will be done under the Presidency's motto "Protect, Strengthen and Prepare".

New research association FORinFPRO: 2 million euros for the development of AI-based and self-adapting manufacturing processes

On 12 December 2023, the Board of Trustees of Bayerische Forschungsstiftung decided to support the Bavarian research association "Intelligent Manufacturing Processes & Closed-Loop Production - FORinFPRO" with around 2 million euros.

EIC work programme 2024 published

The EU Commission has adopted the European Innovation Council (EIC) 2024 work programme. It opens funding opportunities worth over €1.2 billion in 2024. The majority is dedicated to SMEs and start-ups to develop and scale up “deep tech” innovations in critical fields such as generative artificial intelligence (AI), space, critical raw materials, semiconductors and quantum technologies.

New research association ForGeRex to analyse and combat right-wing extremism in Bavaria

An interdisciplinary research association consisting of 18 scientists from eleven Bavarian universities of applied sciences, universities and non-university research institutions is starting its work to deepen scientific knowledge on the topic of right-wing extremism. The ForGeRex network - Research Network for Contemporary Analyses, Remembrance Practice and Counter-Strategies to Right-Wing Extremism in Bavaria - is being funded for four years by the Bavarian State Ministry of Science and the Arts with a total of 4.5 million euros.
