International Cooperation

Bavaria and the North-American Province of Québec have been working closely together for many years in the areas of science, research and technology. The Bavarian Office for Research Coordination between Bavaria and Québec supports the exchange between the individual scientists and their facilities and cooperates closely, with the economy. It is our objective to jointly achieve a fortified international presence and, furthermore, to procure mutual advantages in international research and innovation competition.

  • The coordination site is continuously attending to the 20 joint research projects.
  • It offers - from project planning to implementation - scientific, administrative and financial support for international projects in research and development.
  • It assumes, by means of targeted network activities, the role of mediator between the different research actors in Bavaria and Québec.
  • It has also recently become a contact point for research cooperations between Bavaria and Alberta.

IFAT ENTSORGA 2012 - Canada Special - The Far North

In 2012, the Canada Special at IFAT offered a platform to discover Northern Canada. Northern Canada is already a significant contributor to Canada’s economy. In terms of oil and gas, forestry, fisheries and mining, the North generates substantial wealth and is emerging as a region of value for strategic investments. Besides the economic opportunities, and the related environmental debates, Northern Canada is rich in culture and history, being the place where Aboriginal communities still live. Additionally, it is also a location for scientific exploration. All together these elements make Northern Canada a particularly interesting area to consider for science and development.

The North is diverse. Specialists, researchers, developers, entrepreneurs and decision-makers from Québec, Ontario, Alberta, British Columbia, and Bavaria presented different provincial and territorial initiatives to develop the northern parts of Canada. One aspect is the collaboration with the Aboriginal population; the other, the creation of a favorable business environment through incentive programs. In the coming years, observers expect an increasing need for international contribution in science, technology, and business. The Canada Special drew the lines for possible cooperation opportunities.

With almost one hundred visitors, the Canada Special was the first Bavarian activity introducing Northern Canada. Further activities are already in preparation: a seminar on Québec’s Plan Nord to be held soon at vbw [verlinken mit deren Webpage] and a delegation trip of the Bavarian State Minister for Economic Affairs to Québec at the end of October 2012.
