With innovative solutions, the research cooperation "energy efficient technologies and applications", short FORETA aims to increase energy efficiency in small and medium-sized enterprises.

During the period from 1. September 2009 to 31. August 2012, 11 research institutes and 45 companies develop solutions to improve energy efficiency in small and medium-sized enterprises.

The focus of  the research lies on availability, efficiency and energy-storaging.

In the field of combined heat, cold and power generation plants an enormous energy potential can be identified and used, especially for enterprise with a high energy demand, such as breweries, dairies, and numerous other factories.

Increasing energy efficiency by using new analysis tools and management systems particularly in plant nurseries, the aluminum industry, the food industry and buildings of industrial parks is another major field of activity.

Often heat energy is available at the wrong time or in the wrong place and therefore not usable. By developing new storage systems with innovative storage materials this energy can be stored and used when or where needed.

FORETA spokesman is Professor Martin Faulstich, also Head of the Institute of Resource and Energy Technology at the TU München and Chairman of the German Advisory Council on the Environment.

The coordination office is located at the ATZ Entwicklungszentrum in Sulzbach-Rosenberg
