D1 - Bacterial Permeability Increasing Protein (BPI) as a Novel Biomarker for Infections and Inflammation

The goal of this project is to establish a new biomarker for the discriminative
diagnosis of infectious and inflammatory diseases. For this purpose, the expression kinetics during infections of BPI (Bactericidal Permeability Increasing Protein) and its LBP antagonists are tested on a newly generated, humanized mouse line and current  BPI / LBP measurement methods are evaluated with our very extensive patient material biobank.  In addition BPI is evaluated in regards to its ability to be used as a probe for the detection of infectious agents.
