A3: Design and development of flexible rework tools for printed circuit boards

Printed circuit boards are characterized more and more by complex components which have to meet increasing reliability requirements, thus posing completely new challenges for handling equipment, process tools and test equipment. Especially for the rework process, the process steps are not fully automated which results in a variation of quality level. The central claim of this project is the optimization of the required tools for an optimal rework process of electronic components. The existing functionality of the used rework tools, like guidance of hot-air flow and heat transfer to the solder medium, must be extended. The integration of temperature and heat guidance information to a process control system shall improve the reliability of the rework process. An important contribution for the improvement of quality will be made by the integration of additional functionality and the flexibility of applications.
