On March 11 and March 14, 2024, the Bavarian Research Alliance (BayFOR) and the Israel-Europe R&I Directorate (ISERD) organize a joint workshop series on the EU-Mission on Cancer. The event provides insights into the EU-Mission and offers a platform for partner search to start new research collaborations.

The goal of the EU Mission on Cancer is to improve the lives of more than 3 million people by 2030, through prevention, cure and for those affected by cancer including their families, to live longer and better. The objectives include: (1) Understand; (2) Prevent what is preventable; (3) Optimise diagnostics and treatment; (4) Support quality of life; (5) Ensure equitable access in all aforementioned areas. Projects under this mission should contribute to setting out a credible pathway for implementing the Mission on Cancer. In 2024, the Commission estimates a total budget of 119 Mio. € for all topics under this mission.

This workshop on selected topics from the EU mission on cancer invites researchers from academia, research institutions and R&D driven industry from Bavaria, Israel and other EU countries to explore new cooperation and network opportunities and to compose a one-pager as a feasible starting point for a HEU-proposal. The event is organized by experts of the Bavarian Research Alliance (BayFOR) and the Israel-Europe R&I Directorate (ISERD).

Participants are asked to choose one of the following workshops which will take place in parallel:

Workshop 1: HORIZON-MISS-2024-CANCER-01-03: Accessible and affordable risk predictor tests to advance early detection of heritable cancers in European regions

Workshop 2: HORIZON-MISS-2024-CANCER-01-05: Improving the understanding and management of late-effects in adolescents and young adults (AYA) with cancer

What to expect? Among others, the workshop will address following questions: What are the goals and benefits of the EU-Mission on cancer? How to compose a convincing HEU- proposal? How to build a competitive consortium? Why (not) to become a HEU-coordinator? How to write a first draft and how to get the proposal writing process started? These and further questions will be addressed in our workshop session on selected topics of the EU-Mission “Cancer.

Please note: The event is free of charge. In order to have a fruitful discussion during the working sessions, the number of participants per breakout session is limited.
