Professor Julien Cohen-Adad receives Polytechnique Montréal award

Professor Julien Cohen-Adad from the Department of Electrical Engineering has been awarded the 2026 Prize for Excellence in Research and Innovation by the Academic Council of Polytechnique Montréal.

The Polytechnique Montréal Research and Innovation Award, worth $10,000, is presented annually to a professor to recognize their outstanding contribution to research and innovation as well as to outreach and visibility of graduate education activities.

Professor Cohen-Adad is a leader in the field of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the spinal cord, the development of innovative radiofrequency antennas and the development of deep learning-based image analysis tools. His contributions to his field of research are internationally recognized. The protocols developed by his team have been adopted in more than 100 imaging centers and hospitals worldwide and his methods have been integrated into commercial products of MRI systems.

Professor Cohen-Adad is the Québec partner in the bilateral project “Artificial intelligence for an integrative approach to brain and spinal cord analysis in multiple sclerosis”, whose Bavarian partner is Professor Mark Mühlau from TUM Klinikum rechts der Isar. This project was funded in 2022 as one of a total of three projects by the Bavarian State Ministry of Science and the Arts and the Fonds de recherche du Québec through the joint call for proposals “Artificial Intelligence in Health”.
