Project association for the ecotoxicological evaluation of substances in the environment

The association

We live in a modern industrial and service society, where our everyday lives involve contact with countless substances.

In keeping with the well-known saying of Theophrastus Bombast von Hohenheim, better known as Paracelsus, "solely the dose determines that a thing is not a poison," the important questions are which quantities are introduced into our environment, through which path and which risks does this entail. Some substances are also harmless in large quantities. However, some substances can also become concentrated because they are persistent. Others are already toxic in small quantities or have a chronic effect on flora and fauna.

Ecotoxicology, as part of environmental sciences, investigates the effects of chemical substances or particles on plants, animals and environmental media and considers as many biological levels as possible.

In the project association, four Bavarian research institutions are conducting research in six fascinating specialist projects on the topics of "Insects", "Traffic" and "Construction". The coordination project is being carried out by the Bavarian State Ministry of the Environment and Consumer Protection.
The results from the project association provide politicians and environmental management with valuable background knowledge and decision-making tools for handling substances and their products.

Bavarian State Ministry of the Environment and Consumer Protection initiated the project association and financed the project with 2.1 million euros.
