CENTRE OF EXPERTISE FOR INTERCULTURAL COMMUNICATION
F3G Intercultural communication and cultural identity
Field of work:Intercultural communication
The project aims to analyze the self-image and the image of others which have emerged over the past few years in those Chicanos (Mexican Americans) living in the south western part of the United States of America; their relation to Anglo-Americans as well as their relation to those Mexicans living the border areas to the United States. The main emphasis of the analysis is to look at the processes of differentiating and adapting to the main-stream culture. For an ethnic minority like the Chicanos, living in a multicultural society, these processes might serve to strengthen and keep alive their culture identity rather than just repress it.
