Motivating kick-off event for our WKS Bavaria-Africa Early Career Scholarship programme

With this programme, the Scientific Coordination Office Bavaria-Africa supports young researchers at Bavarian universities and Universities of Applied Sciences in order to promote cooperation in research and innovation between Bavaria and African countries.This scholarship programme aims to close the funding gap between student programmes, such as summer schools, and various research funding programmes for established academics and senior scientists. By creating new opportunities for participants to expand their academic careers and networks, the programme promotes working in an international environment.
The opening lecture explained the Bavarian Africa Strategy and emphasised the importance of scientific cooperation with African countries in the international research context. Further presentations provided valuable insights into best practices and pitfalls to avoid in international collaboration, as well as the importance of equitable collaboration and joint strategies to promote equal partnerships from the start to the completion of a project.
The scholars were given the opportunity to present their project proposal and their planned research trip. In a final session, the group discussed the necessary preparations and possible hurdles and challenges that could arise before and during the trip.
Above all, the event provided an opportunity for networking, knowledge exchange and lively discussions between the scholarship holders and the WKS team.
We look forward to future meetings to see the results of the scholars' projects and the valuable experience they have gained during their participation in the programme.
