Funding Opportunity for Joint Israeli-German Basic Research Projects in All Fields of the Sciences and the Humanities

The German Research Foundation (DFG) and the Israeli Science Foundation (ISF) are inviting German-Israeli research teams to submit joint project proposals in the field of basic research in all areas of the natural sciences and humanities as part of their new funding initiative. The Standing Open Procedure generally operates without application deadlines. However, Israeli researchers on the ISF side are required to pre-register annually.

As part of this funding initiative, Israeli-German research teams can submit project ideas for outstanding joint basic research projects in all areas of the natural sciences and humanities.

No separate funding is available for this joint initiative. Accordingly, the general funding guidelines and budgets of the DFG and ISF apply, which open up DFG research grants ("Sachbeihilfe") and ISF scholarship programmes for this purpose. The usual funding criteria of the DFG and ISF for their respective research funding programmes therefore apply.

Project proposals submitted may have a maximum duration of 36 months and must be written in English. Commercial companies may not be involved as research/cooperation partners. It is not possible to submit extension applications ("Fortsetzungsantrag") under this funding opportunity.

Eligibility:
Applicants must meet the respective requirements for submitting an application for a DFG research grant or an ISF scholarship. The project proposal should highlight the added value of this bilateral cooperation for the respective field of research. The proposed budget does not have to be divided equally between the German and Israeli teams, but each partner should make a significant contribution to the joint research project.

Duration and Budget
Submitted project proposals may not exceed a maximum duration of 36 months. An extension by means of a continuation application is not possible. The budget is based on the criteria of the DFG and ISF. Commercial companies are not eligible for funding.

Deadline
There is no deadline; applications can be submitted at any time. However, Israeli applicants must pre-register via the ISF portal by the end of October each year.
