Webinar: 'Powering the Future: Business model challenges of HESS application'.

Numerous innovations in HESS are currently emerging as part of EU research funding. These innovations play a pivotal role in the sustainable transformation of Europe's energy supply and in achieving the climate targets of the European Green Deal. The second webinar in our ‘Powering the Future’ SMYLES series, taking place on 4 July 2025, will see leading EU projects present the latest developments, technologies, and business models that enhance the performance and economic efficiency of energy storage solutions.

Join leading experts and practitioners who are actively working to transform the European energy sector. BayFOR will moderate a panel discussion on the biggest opportunities and challenges for hybrid energy storage systems.

The webinar will focus on four EU projects within the Horizon Europe framework:

  • HAVEN: Development of intelligent, modular and scalable hybrid energy storage solutions.
  • SMHYLES: Research into innovative, safe and sustainable hybrid storage systems based on salt and water.
  • HIHELIOS: Demonstrating of hybrid batteries with high energy and power density.
  • StoRIES: Improving the economic performance of energy storage technologies through optimised materials and systems.

After the project presentations, there will be an interactive panel discussion on the topic, 'What are the biggest opportunities and challenges for hybrid energy storage systems?'

This will be moderated by BayFOR, a project partner in the SMHYLES consortium.

Topics of the webinar

  • Current developments in the field of energy storage and grid stability
  • Business models and operational challenges for hybrid energy storage systems
  • Economic and technical challenges
  • Contributions of EU projects to sustainability, security of supply and energy efficiency
  • Open question-and-answer session with the project teams
  • Panel discussion on the opportunities and challenges of HESS, moderated by BayFOR.
