The changeover of the login procedure to 2-factor authentication (2FA) has been announced in the Funding & Tenders Portal for some time - it has now been confirmed that the changeover will come into effect within the next few months. The changeover from the previous login procedure via simple password entry to 2-factor authentication (2FA) has been announced in the Funding & Tenders Portal for some time - it has now been confirmed that the changeover will come into force within the next few months.

We therefore strongly recommend that all applicants and users of the Funding & Tenders Portal set up 2-factor authentication for the application process as soon as possible. The portal offers several options for this: The most recommended 2FA option is the mobile EU login (ECAS Mobile) app (PIN code + QR code). In addition, the 2FA option "mobile phone number + SMS", which can be accessed via a mobile phone, is also frequently used. For this, a 9-digit security code is sent by SMS to the phone number entered in the EU login. Step-by-step instructions on how to set this up can be found on the pages of the European Commission. We would like to point out that as far as we know, the EU only uses the registered phone number(s) stored in the respective account in the Funding & Tenders Portal for 2-factor authentication. No further action will be required from the mobile device or phone number. The third and currently only login option for 2-factor authentication without a mobile device is the use of a cryptographic security key. Other third-party applications or tokens are not currently accepted (as of 03/2023).
