EU consultation on classifying AI systems as high risk: contributions from stakeholders sought

The European Commission is conducting a targeted consultation to gather stakeholder contributions from various sectors on the classification of AI systems as high risk. The consultation is aimed at providers and operators of AI systems, industry associations, academic institutions, independent experts, civil society organisations, and public authorities.

The EU AI Act, which came into force on 1 August 2024, takes a risk-based approach to regulating artificial intelligence. Its purpose is to promote trustworthy, human-centric AI while ensuring the protection of health, safety, and fundamental rights. AI systems will be classified according to their risk potential, with particularly high-risk systems being subject to specific obligations from 2 August 2026.

All stakeholders who wish to contribute relevant information, practical examples and comments on the Commission's guidelines on the risk categorisation of AI systems, as well as on the requirements and obligations for high-risk AI systems, are welcome to participate in the consultation.

Important details about the consultation:

  • Period: 6 June to 18 July 2025
  • Language: English
  • Objective: To improve the practical implementation of the AI Act by gathering stakeholder feedback.

Take part in this important consultation to actively shape the regulation of AI systems in the EU.
