EU Commission launches consultation on future Advanced Materials Act

The European Commission has launched a public consultation and call for evidence on the planned Advanced Materials Act. The aim is to gather feedback from all relevant stakeholders—researchers, companies, SMEs, and policymakers—in order to establish a robust European framework for advanced materials. Deadline: 13 January 2026.

These materials, which are developed specifically to have innovative properties, will play a key role in future industries – from wearable electronics and electric vehicles to clean technology, defense, and aerospace.

Prposed in 2026, the Advanced Materials Act will establish a strategic foundation for the EU's industrial leadership, strategic autonomy, and competitiveness. Supporting the entire research and innovation process – from development to production to market launch – and addresses challenges such as long development cycles, production capacities, and regulatory hurdles. The Act also aims to strengthen Europe's competitiveness and accelerate the transition to a sustainable, circular economy.

Background

The legislative act is based on the communication ‚Advanced Materials for Industrial Leadership‘ from February 2024. The aim is to consolidate European and national priorities in the field of advanced materials and strengthen investment in the European materials sector.
