EU Funding for Municipalities in Bavaria: Support for European Projects

Municipalities in Bavaria face a wide range of challenges – from climate action and the energy transition to sustainable mobility, digitalisation and future-proof urban and regional development. EU funding programmes for research and innovation offer cities, towns, municipalities and other local public authorities the opportunity to develop and implement innovative solutions together with partners from academia, industry and other European municipalities. The Bavarian Research Alliance (BayFOR) supports municipalities in Bavaria in identifying suitable EU funding programmes and calls, developing project ideas, finding international partners and preparing competitive EU funding proposals.

Why Participate in European Projects?

EU Projects with Bavarian Municipalities: Success Stories

SMARTER TOGETHER: Innovation for Munich

In the EU project SMARTER TOGETHER, the City of Munich worked with European partners to develop and test innovative solutions for sustainable and liveable cities. Activities included energy efficiency, renewable energy, integrated mobility and citizen engagement. BayFOR supported SMARTER TOGETHER throughout the application and contract preparation phase and subsequently provided the City of Munich with advice on project implementation and project management.

CIVITAS ECCENTRIC: Sustainable Urban Mobility

In the EU project CIVITAS ECCENTRIC, Munich joined forces with Madrid, Ruse, Stockholm and Turku to develop and test innovative solutions for sustainable urban mobility. In Munich, the project explored approaches including car sharing, bike sharing, electric mobility, mobility management and urban logistics in a real-life urban environment.
