Alpine Space project GeoMol: Brussels Information Day
Alpine Foreland Basins feature a unique geological inventory which can contribute substantially to meet the European Commission’s ambitious targets for carbon emission reduction. The deep sedimentary ‘Molasse’ basins along the northern and southern fringes of the Alpine mountain range offer abundant deep geothermal potential and space for underground storage of gas or CO2. GeoMol intends to develop a sound and holistic assessment of the fundamentals for the exploitation of these subsurface potentials. As a transnational approach is essential, partners from Austria, France, Germany, Italy, Slovenia and Switzerland are involved in the project.
At the information day, coherencies and collaborations with other EU projects will be presented as well as the development of GeoMol as a response on the European Parliament’s and the European Commission’s request for a harmonised geological knowledge base to meet the increasing relevance of transnational geological information. Renowned speakers also discuss the political dimension of the project’s deliverables.
Time: September 23rd, 2013, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Venue: Representation of the Free State of Bavaria to the European Union in Brussels (Rue Wiertz 77, 1000 Brussels)
