Cooperation Lounge Africa-Europe: Science meets Politics

The aim of the event is to strengthen science diplomacy in the context of African-European cooperation in research and innovation. We are excited to welcome representatives from academic and research institutions, the private sector, civil society organisations, foundations, and political entities from both African and European countries to connect and exchange opportunities and challenges of international research cooperation between Bavaria, Europe and Africa.

While bridging the gap between science and policy may seem straightforward in theory, the practice shows that it requires close cooperation between a diverse range of stakeholders. Our event will provide an ideal platform to interact and connect closely.

In the evening of 10 December 2024, a high-level networking event takes place, during which representatives from politics and stakeholders from research and innovation discuss the science diplomacy for African-European research and innovation cooperation. Besides opportunities for networking, a poster exhibition offers insights into current African-European research projects.

In the morning of the second day of the event, on 11 December 2024, an interactive workshop/World Café invites participants from research institutions, funding agencies and politics to approach the science-policy nexus in a hands-on way. Using practical examples from research and innovation projects with African and European partners, the participants develop recommendations to improve the project cycle of research and innovation projects and to strengthen African-European cooperation.

Discuss with us the opportunities and challenges of African-European cooperation in research and innovation projects and network with various stakeholders for a future exchange between science and politics.

Participation is free of charge, but prior registration is required. Unfortunately, the costs for travel and accommodation cannot be covered by the organiser.

Please note that there is only a limited number of places available for this event, especially for the workshop on the second day. Therefore, early registration is recommended. The organisers reserve the right to potentially create a waiting list and select participants in order to allow a diverse audience to participate in the event.

Shortly before the event, invited guests will receive a personalised registration code, which is necessary to access the Representation of the Free State of Bavaria to the EU.
