WKS Bavaria-Africa at the 12th EDCTP Forum in Kigali: Promoting Global Research Partnerships

From 15 to 20 June 2025, the Bavaria-Africa Scientific Coordination Unit (WKS) of BayFOR will participate in the 12th EDCTP Forum, which will be held in Kigali, Rwanda, and will focus on 'Better Health through Global Research Partnerships'. The WKS will present its portfolio of services and its role as a facilitator in African-European research.

The EDCTP Forum provides a platform for research into poverty-related infectious diseases in sub-Saharan Africa. It faciliates as a forum for exchange between international research institutions and promotes capacity building and the funding for joint research projects.

Programme highlights:

1. Workshop: Public Health in the AU-EU Innovation Agenda
On 16 June 2025, WKS Bayern-Afrika will actively participate in a workshop discussing the implementation of public health measures under the AU-EU Innovation Agenda (‘Where do we stand in implementing the public health measures of the AU-EU Innovation Agenda?’), reflecting on progress to date and planning future steps in this field.

2. Workshop: The HEU Africa Initiative III and the Submission of Proposals
On 19 June 2025, the WKS will co-facilitate the workshop on the HEU Africa Initiative III and the submission of proposals of the European Commission and EURAXESS Africa. The focus will be on funding African-European research under the Africa Initiative III within Horizon Europe. Based on the call for proposals 'Development of antibodies and antibody-derived proteins for the prevention and treatment of infectious diseases with epidemic (HORIZON-HLTH-2025-01-DISEASE-03, RIA), participants will receive practical guidance on applying via the Funding&Tenders portal. The workshop will demonstrate how to form a consortium and prepare und submit a proposal.

EDCTP: Research for Africa's Health

The European & Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership (EDCTP) promotes clinical research to combat infectious diseases in sub-Saharan Africa. The EDCTP Forum is the central venue for presenting research results and establishing new collaborations. The forum attracts decision-makers, researchers and institutions from Europe and Africa who are addressing the challenges of medical care and research in the field of public health.
