The Future of Research Collaboration with the United Kingdom

Munich. The British Council and the British Embassy invite you to a panel discussion on the future of international collaboration and researcher mobility in the UK and Germany.

The event is an opportunity for experts and organisations from the UK and Germany who are involved in monitoring and encouraging mobility of researchers in the UK and Germany to come together and highlight trends and best practices from both countries and discuss the future mechanisms for maintaining Europe as a destination for research excellence and collaboration.

Both Germany and the UK have highly internationalised research systems, attracting increasing numbers of students and researchers to their institutions every year.

This event will provide insight into how structures and initiatives, as well as international reputations of research facilities and higher education institutes, have fuelled this internationalisation in both countries to date. This will be an opportunity to discuss how important researcher mobility and exchange is for the UK and European research systems as the negotiations for the UK's exit from the EU progress - not only for the benefit of the UK but also for continued collaboration with the UK's No.1 research partner in Europe: Germany.

The British Consul General, Simon Kendall, will open this event. His opening remarks will be followed by a panel discussion between science and research experts from the UK and Germany.

The panelists are:

Julie Maxton, Executive Director of The Royal Society

Dr Berthold Neizert, Director of Research Policy and External Relations, Max Planck Society

Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. mult. Wolfgang Herrmann, President of Technische Universität München (invited)

Chair: Jeanne Rubner, Managing Editor Science and Education Policy at Bayerischer Rundfunk
