Open calls in EU and national funding initiatives for research on COVID-19

Calls COVID-19
To fight against the spread of COVID-19, the European Innovative Medicines Initiative (IMI) and the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) have recently launched calls for proposals for research projects on the Sars-CoV-2 coronavirus.


The European Commission funds with €45 million from the Horizon 2020 budget the Innovative Medicines Initiative (IMI) fast track single-stage call (call 21) for research proposals in response to the COVID-19 outbreak. The IMI call welcomes proposals for projects to develop treatments and diagnostics to better tackle the disease. The deadline for submitting the proposals is 31 March 2020. At national level, the BMBF has recently opened a call to fight against the spread of COVID-19. The call focuses on funding research projects on the following topics (a. o.): biology of the virus, transmission of the virus, development of treatments, clinical characterization, infection prevention and epidemiological studies. The deadline for submitting the proposals is 11 May 2020. More information can be found here.
