The Danish EU Presidency in 2025: Focus on research, innovation and technological sovereignty

Research and innovation are at the heart of European competitiveness
The Danish Presidency aims to foster optimal conditions for excellent research and innovation-driven companies. The focus will be on the upcoming EU strategy for life sciences, the start-up and scale-up strategy, and the new strategy for research and technology infrastructures, among other things. These initiatives aim to bolster Europe's innovative capabilities and accelerate the translation of scientific discoveries into marketable solutions.
Technological sovereignty will be achieved through key technologies
Particular focus will be given to closing the European innovation gap in artificial intelligence, quantum technology, biotechnology and space technologies. The Danish Presidency is promoting cooperation between public and private research to secure Europe's long-term digital competitiveness.
The first EU Space Act is planned
The Space Act aims to establish a unified European market for the space industry. The goal is to boost the resilience, security and sustainability of European space activities, as well as strengthening Europe's open strategic autonomy.
Innovation through simplification
A key concern of the Presidency is the simplification of European research and innovation policy. Simpler regulations, faster approval processes, and targeted investment incentives are intended to encourage companies and research institutions to invest more in innovation.
