European Commission Seeks Experts for Frontier AI Forum – Strengthening Europe’s Competitiveness and Digital Sovereignty

The European Commission, through its AI Office, has published a call for expressions of interest inviting European AI stakeholders to participate in a high-level Frontier AI Expert Forum. The forum is part of the European Frontier AI Initiative, which aims to strengthen the European Union’s competitiveness, technological sovereignty, and security in the field of trustworthy frontier artificial intelligence.
The deadline for submitting expressions of interest is 12 March 2026 at 18:00 CET.

Strategic Forum for Europe’s AI Leadership

The Expert Forum is aimed at senior decision-makers from the European AI ecosystem. Its purpose is to assess existing frontier AI initiatives, identify bottlenecks and challenges, and develop strategic recommendations to strengthen Europe’s AI landscape.

Key focus areas include:

• EU competitiveness in the global AI race
• Europe’s digital and technological sovereignty
• Security and trustworthiness of frontier AI
• Scaling European AI models
• Expanding computing infrastructure (AI factories and AI gigafactories)

Participants will have the opportunity to present their ideas and exchange views with other key actors to help shape the future direction of the Frontier AI Initiative. Discussions will take place under the Chatham House Rule. To ensure transparency, the AI Office will publish key takeaways and updates related to the initiative.

The first meeting of the Expert Forum will be held online on 23 April 2026 from 13:30 to 18:00 CET. Selected
