ERDF funding in Bavaria from 2028: Take part in the online consultation now

The Bavarian State Ministry of Economic Affairs, Regional Development and Energy (StMWi) has begun preparations for the next ERDF funding period, 2028–2034. Through a public online consultation, universities, research institutions, businesses, local authorities, associations and members of the public are being given the opportunity to help shape the future direction of ERDF funding in Bavaria. The consultation is open until 30 August 2026.

ERDF: EU funding for innovation and regional development

The European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), together with the European Social Fund Plus (ESF+), is one of the most important EU Structural Funds. Unlike centrally managed EU programmes such as Horizon Europe, ERDF funds are implemented by the Member States or the regions. The aim is to promote innovation, research, business competitiveness, digitalisation, climate protection and the sustainable development of the regions.

As things stand, Bavaria is set to receive ERDF funding once again in the forthcoming EU budgetary period 2028–2034. The European Commission has already presented proposals for the next Multiannual Financial Framework and the future legal basis for cohesion policy. These are currently being negotiated between the European Commission, the Member States and the European Parliament.

Bavaria launches programme planning

Although the European legislation for the funding period from 2028 onwards has not yet been finalised, Bavaria is already beginning to draw up its future ERDF programme. The online consultation that has now been launched is intended to help align future funding priorities with the needs of the academic community, business, local authorities and society.

The feedback will be incorporated into the programme planning and will form an important basis for the future structure of ERDF funding in Bavaria.

Take part now

If you would like to contribute ideas for future European regional and innovation funding in Bavaria, you can take part in the online consultation until 30 August 2026.
