2nd Norwegian-Bavarian Workshop on Future Opportunities within Energy, Climate and Environment – Focus on excellence and impact in International Cooperation in Horizon 2020

25/03/2019
The Research Council of Norway

Oslo. The Bavarian Research Alliance (BayFOR) and the Research Council of Norway (RCN) will hold a workshop from 25 to 27 March in Oslo, which aims to bring together Norwegian and Bavarian stakeholders from the research, business and public sector. Participants will explore possibilities for international cooperation within Horizon 2020 and get hands-on support for their project proposals.

Following our first workshop in Munich in October 2018, RCN and BayFOR will now continue to connect stakeholders from the research, business and public sector in Oslo. Our aim is to facilitate their cooperation in international research and innovation projects in the context of the Europe 2020 strategy on smart, sustainable and inclusive growth and the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

On 25 March from 12 pm onwards, we will kick off with keynote speeches of highly experienced innovators, and a look into the future to the upcoming 9th framework programme “Horizon Europe”.
You will have the chance to present your organisation, your expertise and your project ideas in a flash presentation to your peers.

However, are your peers actually the right partners for realizing your idea and getting funding for it? Focusing on the Excellence part of project proposals, we will elaborate together with you how and where to find the best partners for your project, and move on to finding an intriguing way of telling a convincing story about your project idea to evaluators. You will have the possibility to work concretely on both issues in interactive workgroups. If you are currently planning a project proposal, you can do so together with your partners and under professional guidance.

After an informative day and new insights, you will have the opportunity to hold bilateral meetings and to network during our dinner starting at 7 pm.

On 26 March from 8:30 am onwards, we will focus on the SDGs and on how to achieve their realisation.
Have you ever thought about how your research and innovations will contribute to the SDGs and how your work will thereby result in tangible impact?
Our experts will elaborate on the SDGs and their relevance for EU funded projects. In a subsequent training session in small work groups, we will focus on how you can address expected impacts in selected topics and how the SDGs play into this part of the project proposal. Again, you will have the chance to do so with your partners, if you are in the grant application phase.

After all the hard work, we will visit SINTEF and CICERO, where you will have the chance to get to know the organisations and to connect with the research staff.

We will close with a dinner at 7 pm in the centre of Oslo.

On 27 March from 9 am onwards, we will continue our site visits at NILU and IFE. You can explore both organisations and network with the researchers on site.

After the official part of the workshop, you have the great chance to stay on one more day to participate in the RCN-organised Horizon 2020 course on “Writing successful H2020 proposals” on 28 March.

This event is for you, if you

  • are interested in learning more about the world of EU research and innovation funding (Horizon 2020/Horizon Europe)
  • aim to expand your network, meet new partners, pitch your project ideas, show off your research and present your business concepts
  • need a platform to ask as many questions as possible to experts and to your peers on their current projects
  • work on proposals for funding programmes – you are welcome to bring your international partners along
  • have a great idea, but you are not sure, how to realise it
