BayFOR at IFAT Africa 2023, Africa's Leading Trade Fair for Water, Sewage, Refuse and Recycling

IFAT Africa will take place in Johannesburg, South Africa, from 5 to 7 July 2023. This trade fair provides a platform for the presentation of technologies and solutions for the water and wastewater, waste and recycling sectors for the African market in sub-Saharan countries. The aim is to give international companies access to the African market and companies in Africa access to the global market. The Bavarian Research Alliance (BayFOR) will be represented at IFAT Africa at the stand of the Bavarian Meeting Point "Bavaria meets Africa" and will inform about thematically relevant EU funding programmes for research and innovation.

The European Union offers numerous funding opportunities for international research and innovation projects in the thematic areas of (waste) water, waste, resources and circular economy as global challenges. In this context, the participation of African institutions (universities, research institutions, industry, SMEs, municipalities, foundations, etc.) in those projects can also be funded.

International cooperation with the Global South, especially Africa, is an important component of Horizon Europe, the EU's Framework Programme for Research and Innovation. The programme is embedded in the relevant policy framework of the European Commission, such as the Joint Africa-EU Strategy, and focuses on achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals
As part of the conference programme, BayFOR will present current and thematically relevant European funding calls in the fields of environment, energy and circular economy, in which African institutions can participate. Based on best practice examples of ongoing environmental projects with the participation of African stakeholders, BayFOR will provide hands-on advice for a successful application.

At the same time, BayFOR's Scientific Coordination Office Bavaria-Africa will introduce itself and its portfolio. Its main goal is to promote exchange between actors from Africa and Bavaria.
