BayFOR invited as expert to workshop on education, research and extension for Colombian agriculture

27/11/2017

Bogotá (Colombia). The Republic of Colombia has set the course for stronger academic and industrial collaboration with Europe. At the same time, the European Commission is looking for new joint research and innovation projects with non-EU countries. On 27 and 28 November 2017, the Colombian government organises its first international meeting of experts in training, research and extension for Colombian agriculture, linking national expertise with input from international actors. BayFOR will present collaboration opportunities in Horizon 2020 and establish contact between Colombian and Bavarian research and innovation actors.

“Open to the world” is one of the central goals of EU Commissioner Carlos Moedas. However, international participation in European framework programmes has significantly dropped since the start of Horizon 2020. On the other hand, the Republic of Colombia is working on expanding international collaboration with the US, Japan, Canada and Europe. With its international expert meeting, the Colombian government will bring together representatives of these regions and organise workshops around three main topics:

  • Good practices in public policies
  • Public policies in research for the agricultural sector
  • Funding schemes for research

Via the Bavarian University Centre for Latin America (BAYLAT), BayFOR is invited to Colombia to present insights into thematic funding options for Colombo-European projects in Horizon 2020. The presentation will include information on specific conditions of open European research topics, funding rules and conditions for participation.

Furthermore, on 29 November, BayFOR will offer a separate workshop for Colombian researchers and entrepreneurs in particular on how to write competitive EU research proposals and how to get into contact with Bavarian researchers.

During and after the workshops, BayFOR will establish bilateral contact with Colombian agricultural stakeholders and provide information on Bavarian expertise and key players in this sector.
