BayFOR at the 9th Science Summit 2023: EU-funded research & innovation projects with partners from the Americas and the Global South

22/09/2023
BayFOR at the Science Summit 2023

From 12 to 29 September 2023, the 9th Science Summit will take place in New York City around the 78th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA78). The main goal of the Science Summit is to promote and develop global cooperation in the field of science, in order to achieve an implementation of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) of the United Nations. In this framework, BayFOR will organise, together with Invest in Bavaria, an hybrid event (onsite + online) on 22 September to provide information on EU funding opportunities for research and innovation projects involving partners from the Americas and the Global South. BayFOR will also present several European funding options for “green topics”. Additionally, several ongoing EU R&I projects will present their objectives and activities, and BayFOR will moderate a panel discussion on how to implement the SDGs via such projects.

The 9th Science Summit will focus on collaboration, science and key UN initiatives, inclusive science, research infrastructure, and data-enabled science. In line with these key themes, BayFOR and Invest in Bavaria (and their office in New York) will address the following topics during their hybrid event:

  • International cooperation under Horizon Europe, the EU’s current Framework Programme for Research and Innovation
  • European green calls for proposals: funding, challenges, and support

Furthermore, several EU-funded R&I projects will be presented, which are active in the following fields:

  • Circular technologies for sustainable city region food systems in Africa
  • Climate-smart water allocation in a central Asian transboundary river basin
  • Clean biofuel production and phytoremediation solutions from contaminated lands worldwide
  • Climate-resilient regions through systemic solutions and innovation
  • System Assessment of LNG options from North America to the EU

The event will be of particular interest to stakeholders from science and research, business and industry, foundations and municipalities interested in EU funding programmes for green issues, and actors looking for an opportunity to network with the participating speakers and other attendees.
